To invest your faith in genuine relationships and moments; this is the self-developed motto that Rhett Ybarra leads his life by. Lois Cheney said, “God moves people in and out of each other’s lives, and each leaves a mark on the other. You find you are made up of bits and pieces of all who have ever touched your life. You are more because of them, and would be less if they had not touched you,” and this human capacity to positively influence one another is what governs his motives.
Rhett has been called self-motivated, creative, genuine, and a leader who focuses on including everyone and making others feel good. He exercised these skills at Thurston High School as a captain of his varsity football team and a prominent member of the theater department. He then moved on to Oregon State University where he studied apparel design and business entrepreneurship, as well as merchandising management. Throughout his time there, he was afforded many opportunities to serve in a variety of roles which included Vice President of his fraternity, a member of numerous mission and service trips both within and outside of the country, and a youth sports coach serving the greater Corvallis community.
An accomplished and talented public speaker, Rhett used his quick wit and bold personality to license his own business, Ybarra DJ and Entertainment, at the age of 21. This has led to further opportunities at Oregon State University, but also all across Oregon. He recently traveled statewide to speak at local high schools about diversity and acceptance. This paralleled his longstanding passion for Special Olympics where he served as a brand management and design intern, and still currently serves as a contracted designer and public ambassador. “Growing up with a brother who has Asperger’s syndrome has given me more direction in life than anything else,” says Rhett when asked about his continued work with the special needs community.
Rhett has been positively impacted by Jon Bullock, as well as the rest of the team, and truly appreciates the influence they have had on the development of his character. In the near future he hopes to work for a company where his creativity can flourish and he is afforded the flexibility use his skills and passions to grow the brand in a more charitable direction, while always keeping diversity and acceptance in mind.
